Vikas Bahl’s supernatural thriller “Shaitaan” continues to make waves at the box office, albeit with a slight decline in numbers after its opening weekend. According to a report by Sacnilk, the film garnered ₹6.75 crore on its fifth day, bringing its total domestic collection to an impressive ₹68 crore.
Released on March 8, “Shaitaan” presents a chilling narrative revolving around a family of three ensnared by an individual wielding supernatural powers. The movie features Ajay Devgn as Kabeer, Madhavan as Vanraaj Kashyap, Janki Bodiwala as Jahnvi, and Jyotika as Jyoti. Jointly produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak, the film has captivated audiences with its gripping storyline and stellar performances.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared insights into the film’s box office performance, highlighting its robust collections even on weekdays. Adarsh noted, “After scoring an excellent total in its opening weekend, #Shaitaan posts a strong number on a make-or-break Day 4 [Mon]… Total: ₹62.94 cr.” He further projected that the film is eyeing a total of ₹82 crore in its first week, despite the impact of Ramadan on cinema footfall.
Critics have offered mixed reviews of “Shaitaan,” with Saibal Chatterjee giving it 1.5 out of 5 stars. Chatterjee acknowledged the film’s utilization of a proven script from the Gujarati film “Vash,” directed by Krishnadev Yagnik. He commended the portrayal of the clash between a family on vacation and an enigmatic intruder, played by Madhavan, who exercises control through hypnosis.
In addition to its lead cast, “Shaitaan” also features Palak Lalwani, Manoj Anand, and Richa Prakash in pivotal roles, adding depth to its ensemble cast.
As “Shaitaan” continues to captivate audiences with its eerie narrative and thrilling performances, it stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of supernatural cinema in Bollywood. With its impressive box office numbers and critical acclaim, the film promises to leave a lasting impression on audiences long after its theatrical run.
