Disappointing Pre-Sales for Bollywood Releases: "Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha" and "Ulajh" Struggle to Gain Traction

This week’s Bollywood box office offerings, Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” and Janhvi Kapoor’s “Ulajh,” are facing a challenging start, with both films struggling to attract audiences in pre-sales.

Pre-Sales Figures Fall Short

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the pre-sales for “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” directed by Neeraj Pandey, have been underwhelming, with fewer than ₹1000 tickets sold. The film, which features Ajay Devgn and Tabu, is reported to have generated less than ₹49.79 lakh in its opening day collections. It is anticipated to earn between ₹2 and ₹3 crore on its first day.

In an even more disheartening development, “Ulajh,” a spy thriller starring Janhvi Kapoor, has managed to sell fewer than 750 tickets in pre-sales. The film is expected to open with earnings between ₹1 and ₹2 crore. This performance marks a significant drop compared to last month’s release, “Sarfira,” which also struggled at the box office.

Release Delays and Market Competition

Both films faced delays prior to their release. “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” was originally slated for July 5 but was pushed back due to the strong box office performance of Nag Ashwin’s dystopian sci-fi epic, “Kalki 2898 AD.” Similarly, “Ulajh” experienced its own set of delays before hitting theaters this week.

Film Details and Reviews

“Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” is Neeraj Pandey’s latest directorial venture, following his acclaimed works like “A Wednesday,” “Special 26,” and “Baby.” The film is a romantic saga spanning decades, with Ajay Devgn and Tabu leading the cast, alongside Shantanu Maheshwari and Sai Manjrekar. Despite the star power and the film’s expansive narrative, the initial audience response has been lukewarm.

On the other hand, “Ulajh,” directed by Sudhanshu Saria, stars Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, and Roshan Mathews. Shot predominantly in London, the film’s plot centers around inter-country conflicts but has been criticized for its rushed pacing and reliance on plot conveniences, as noted in the Hindustan Times review.
