In a disturbing revelation that has sent shockwaves through the Malayalam film industry, renowned South Indian actress and BJP leader Raadhika Sarathkumar has claimed that hidden cameras were used to film actresses while they were changing clothes in caravans on movie sets. The actress, who is married to South Indian superstar Sarathkumar, made these allegations during an interview with a private television channel.
Raadhika Sarathkumar disclosed that she discovered hidden cameras in caravans, which are commonly used by actresses on film sets to change clothes. Upon realizing the presence of these cameras, she chose not to use the caravans and instead opted to return to her hotel room whenever she needed to change. “After I got to know that cameras were placed in caravans to record women actresses, I did not use the facility, and when I needed to change, I returned to the hotel room,” she stated.
The actress further revealed that the footage captured by these hidden cameras was allegedly saved in folders named after the actresses involved. These videos were then viewed by men on the shooting sets, raising serious concerns about the safety and privacy of women working in the film industry.
Raadhika also shared that several women working in the Malayalam film industry had approached her for help, reporting incidents of men knocking on their hotel room doors with inappropriate intentions. This revelation adds to the growing concerns about the exploitation and harassment of women in the industry.
The Malayalam film industry has been under scrutiny following numerous reports of sexual assault and abuse involving prominent actors and directors. The situation worsened after the release of the Justice Hema committee report, which was commissioned by the Kerala government to investigate the issues faced by women in the industry. In the wake of this report, several women actors have come forward with shocking accounts of their experiences.
As a result of these revelations, FIRs have been registered against several well-known figures in the Malayalam film industry, including actors Mukesh, who is also a CPI(M) legislator from Kollam, Siddik, Jayasuriya, Sudheesh, Edavela Babu, and Maniyanpilla Raju. Additionally, FIRs have been filed against directors Ranjith and V. K. Prakash.
In response to these alarming developments, Tamil superstar and South Indian Artists Association (SIAA) general secretary Vishal has urged women in the Tamil film industry to speak out if they have experienced any form of harassment or abuse. Furthermore, Tamil actress and national award winner Kutti Padmini has revealed that she was sexually abused when she was just ten years old in the Tamil film industry.
The ongoing revelations have highlighted the urgent need for stronger measures to protect the safety and dignity of women in the film industry. As the investigations continue, there is a growing demand for accountability and justice for the victims of these heinous acts.
