Known for his intense method acting, Aamir Khan has once again proven that his dedication to authenticity knows no bounds. In a recent interview with ABP Live, the Bollywood superstar revealed that he refrained from bathing for several days — 12 to be exact — while filming two of his iconic films: Raakh (1989) and Ghulam (1998).
Addressing a long-standing rumour, Aamir confirmed, “I’ve done this not once, but twice.” Recalling his role in Raakh, he explained, “My character ends up living on the streets after leaving home. I wanted it to feel real, so I avoided bathing to look like someone who’s actually ended up on the road.”
The commitment didn’t end there. During the shooting of Ghulam, particularly its climactic action sequence, Aamir once again gave up daily showers to maintain continuity. “There was a long fight scene where I get badly beaten up. My injuries kept increasing day by day, and if I had bathed every day, it would have ruined the look. Bathing makes you look fresh, which I didn’t want,” he shared.
About Raakh and Ghulam
Raakh, an action-crime drama directed by Aditya Bhattacharya, was released in 1989 and featured a powerful cast including Supriya Pathak, Pankaj Kapur, and Jagdeep. The film was critically acclaimed and won three National Film Awards.
Nearly a decade later, Aamir starred in Ghulam, directed by Vikram Bhatt and co-starring Rani Mukerji. Known for its gritty narrative and intense action, the film resonated with audiences and further cemented Aamir’s reputation for physically and emotionally immersive roles.
Aamir Khan’s Upcoming Project
The actor is now gearing up for his next release, Sitaare Zameen Par, which is being described as a “spiritual sequel” to the 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna and co-starring Genelia Deshmukh, the film will mark Aamir’s return to the big screen after a significant hiatus.
Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, with a screenplay by Divy Nidhi Sharma, Sitaare Zameen Par is set to release in theatres on June 20. The film also introduces a lineup of fresh faces including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, and Simran Mangeshkar.
As fans eagerly await his return, Aamir’s latest revelations serve as a reminder of the lengths he goes to in pursuit of cinematic realism.
