Karan Johar and Guneet Monga's Action Thriller "Kill" Earns ₹1.20 Crore on Day 1 at Box Office

The Bollywood action thriller “Kill”, co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment, has made a promising debut at the Indian box office. Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt and featuring a cast including newcomers Lakshya, Tanya Maniktala, and Raghav Juyal, the film garnered ₹1.20 crore on its opening day, according to industry reports.

“Kill” enjoyed a solo release this week after the delay of Neeraj Pandey’s romantic drama “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha”, which stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu. This allowed “Kill” to capitalize on its targeted audience without direct competition. However, last week’s Telugu blockbuster “Kalki 2898 AD” continues its strong performance across India, featuring stars like Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan.

Set predominantly on a train, “Kill” has gained attention for its extreme violence, which places it in the adult film category, restricting its audience reach in cinemas. Despite this, the film has benefited from its association with Lionsgate Pictures, which distributed it on over 1000 screens in North America coinciding with the American Independence Day release on July 4. “Kill” also received accolades during its global festival run, notably at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Reviewing the film, Hindustan Times praised the performances, particularly highlighting Lakshya’s portrayal: “Kill shows violence as you have never imagined, and what makes it even more satisfying are the men in action. Lakshya, who was earlier set to debut in Dharma Films’ ‘Dostana 2’, delivers a standout performance.”

Looking ahead, “Kill” will enjoy a week-long solo run before facing competition from upcoming releases like Sudha Kongara’s “Sarfira”, starring Akshay Kumar, and Shankar’s action-packed “Indian 2”, featuring Kamal Haasan, scheduled for release on July 12.
