Ekta Kapoor Opens Up About Response to "Thank You For Coming" and Anticipation for "LSD 2" Release

Producer Ekta Kapoor recently shared insights into her experiences following the release of Karan Boolani’s sex comedy “Thank You For Coming” and the upcoming anthology “LSD 2: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha 2.” In an interview with Variety, Kapoor expressed mixed emotions about the reception of “Thank You For Coming” and the anticipated response to “LSD 2.”

Kapoor revealed that “Thank You For Coming” left her with a “strange pain” due to the contrasting reception it received domestically and internationally. While the film received positive reviews overseas, it faced backlash and hate spamming in India, particularly for its exploration of female sexuality. Kapoor co-produced the film with Rhea Kapoor, starring Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role.

Regarding the hate spamming, Kapoor expressed concern about the potential backlash “LSD 2” might face, given its bolder themes and narrative. She mentioned feeling the need to go into hiding post the release of Dibakar Banerjee’s directorial, indicating the challenges of navigating public reception for daring storytelling in Indian cinema.

“LSD 2” is a sequel to the acclaimed found-footage anthology “Love, Sex Aur Dhokha,” directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures. The original film marked the debut of actor Rajkummar Rao and explored various aspects of modern relationships and societal dynamics.

Dibakar Banerjee shared insights into the sequel, mentioning that it was Ekta Kapoor’s idea to revisit the concept due to significant societal changes since the release of the first film. He emphasized the exploration of how virtual life has come to dominate real-life experiences, reflecting contemporary challenges and perspectives in modern society.

As “LSD 2” gears up for its release, Kapoor’s candid remarks shed light on the complexities of producing films that push boundaries and challenge societal norms, highlighting the ongoing dialogue around censorship, artistic freedom, and audience reception in the Indian film industry.
