Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap Announces Charges for Meetings with 'Creative Geniuses'

Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has recently made headlines with a bold announcement regarding his meetings with aspiring talents in the creative industry. Kashyap took to Instagram to share his decision to charge a substantial amount for meeting new people who believe they are “creative geniuses.”

In a post on Saturday, Anurag Kashyap expressed frustration with individuals who seek his guidance but often deliver mediocre work. He stated, “I wasted a lot of time trying to help newcomers and mostly ended up with mediocre s**t. So now onwards I don’t want to waste my time with meeting random people who think they’re creative geniuses.”

The filmmaker laid out his rates for meetings, indicating that for a 10-15 minute interaction, he would charge ₹1 lakh, for half an hour ₹2 lakhs, and for a full hour ₹5 lakhs. Kashyap emphasized that payment must be made in advance, signaling a shift from his previous approach of offering guidance and mentorship to newcomers.

Anurag Kashyap’s decision sparked a range of reactions from the industry. His daughter Aaliyah Kashyap humorously mentioned forwarding the post to those who regularly send her scripts for her father’s consideration. Actress Shahana Goswami questioned the effectiveness of charging for meetings, suggesting that paying individuals might still waste Kashyap’s time. However, she acknowledged the frustration of dealing with people seeking shortcuts.

On a positive note, Kubbra Sait supported Kashyap’s decision with enthusiasm, indicating agreement with the filmmaker’s stance.

Amidst this announcement, Anurag Kashyap also revealed his upcoming project, marking his debut in Malayalam cinema as an actor. He is set to appear in director Aashiq Abu’s film “Rifle Club,” written by Sharfu-Suhas, Dileesh Karunakaran, and Syam Pushkaran. The star-studded cast includes Dileesh Pothan, Vani Viswanath, Vijayaraghavan, Vincy Aloshious, Ramzan Muhammed, Surabhi Lakshmi, and Unnimaya Prasad. “Rifle Club” is scheduled for release during the festive occasion of Onam in 2024.
