In a recent social media post, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan inadvertently credited Kiran Rao with a directorial debut in his review of the film “Laapataa Ladies,” a project produced by Rao herself. The actor, known for his candid remarks, shared his thoughts on the film, lauding its quality and expressing admiration for Rao’s supposed directorial debut.
Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday evening, Salman Khan expressed his appreciation for “Laapataa Ladies,” a film produced by Kiran Rao and co-produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. However, Khan’s praise took an unexpected turn when he mistakenly referred to the film as Kiran Rao’s directorial debut.
“Just saw Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. Wah wah Kiran. I really enjoyed it and so did my father. Congrats on your debut as a director, superb job. Kab kaam karogi mere saath (When will you work with me),” Khan wrote in his post.
Almost immediately, netizens were quick to correct Khan’s error, reminding him that Kiran Rao’s directorial debut was the 2010 film “Dhobi Ghat.” One user responded, “Kiran Rao debuted in 2010 for your Information,” while another pointed out, “Debut Kiran Rao ka DHOBI GHAT thi, sir.”
This social media faux pas by Salman Khan highlighted the importance of accuracy when acknowledging the contributions of filmmakers in the industry. While Khan’s intention to commend the film and its creators was clear, his oversight regarding Rao’s previous directorial venture drew attention from vigilant fans and followers.
Prior to Khan’s review, veteran actress Shabana Azmi had also praised “Laapataa Ladies,” emphasizing the film’s quality and the performances of its cast. Azmi took to social media to commend Kiran Rao for her role in crafting a “delightful” cinematic experience.
“What a delightful film #KiranRao’s #Lapata Ladies is. So well written with authentic atmosphere and lovely performances by the cast with #Ravi Kishen topping them all. The audience was laughing and clapping. Kudos to Kiran Rao. Please go and watch the film Now. Such little gems must be patronized by audiences,” Azmi wrote in her post.
Starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava in lead roles, “Laapataa Ladies” also features Chhaya Kadam, Durgesh Kumar, Satendra Soni, and Hemant Soni in significant roles. Produced with the collaborative efforts of Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande, the film aims to captivate audiences with its unique storyline and compelling performances.
As the film continues to garner attention and accolades, Salman Khan’s inadvertent error serves as a reminder of the intricacies within the Bollywood fraternity and the importance of acknowledging filmmakers’ previous works accurately.
