Tamil Fans Call for Re-Release of Kamal Haasan's "Gunaa" Following Success of "Manjummel Boys"

In a remarkable tribute to Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan’s iconic film “Gunaa,” the recent success of the Malayalam movie “Manjummel Boys” has sparked fervent demands among Tamil fans for a re-release of the beloved Tamil classic.

“Manjummel Boys,” a survival drama directed by Chidamabaram and shot in the iconic Gunaa caves, has been making waves at the box office, nearing the impressive ₹25 crore mark in Tamil Nadu. Paying homage to Haasan’s 1991 masterpiece, the Malayalam film features an ode to “Gunaa” with scenes and music from the iconic film.

The desire for a re-release of “Gunaa” has gained significant traction among Tamil audiences, who view the nostalgic connection between the two films as a compelling reason to relive the magic of the original masterpiece.

Renowned trade analyst Ramesh Bala elaborated on the sentiment, stating, “The success of ‘Manjummel Boys’ brings forth the nostalgic factor of ‘Gunaa.’ As re-releases gain popularity, fans believe this is the opportune moment to reintroduce ‘Gunaa’ to audiences, especially the younger generation who may not have experienced it before.”

Directed by Santhana Bharathi, “Gunaa” was praised for its avant-garde storytelling and poignant portrayal of love amidst mental turmoil. The film, featuring Haasan and Roshini in lead roles, left an indelible mark on viewers with its captivating narrative and soul-stirring music composed by maestro Ilaiyaraaja.

Vaali’s poignant lyrics, particularly in the song “Kanmani Anbodu Kadalan,” continue to resonate with audiences, evoking emotions of love and longing. The timeless appeal of Haasan’s performance and the film’s thematic depth have solidified its status as a cult classic in Tamil cinema.

Amidst the growing demand for a re-release, fans and cinephiles alike are rallying behind the idea of celebrating Haasan’s unparalleled contributions to Tamil cinema. With social media abuzz with calls for revisiting the cinematic gem, the prospect of experiencing “Gunaa” on the big screen once again has ignited fervent anticipation among fans across Tamil Nadu.
