"Sandeep Reddy Vanga Responds to Kiran Rao's Criticism on 'Animal': Challenges Her to Ask Aamir Khan"

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his blockbuster film “Animal,” has taken a direct stance against criticism from Aamir Khan’s ex-wife, Kiran Rao. In a recent interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Vanga urged Rao to inquire about Aamir Khan’s character in “Dil” before passing judgment on films like “Bahubaali 2” and “Kabir Singh,” which she deemed as promoting misogyny and stalking.

Vanga, addressing the criticism without directly naming Rao, expressed his disagreement with her viewpoint. He highlighted the importance of understanding the context in which certain scenes are portrayed in films. Speaking in Hindi, he said, “When people read these things out of context, they tend to agree. This is entirely wrong.”

The director further challenged Rao, saying, “I would like to say to that woman, ‘Go ask Aamir Khan, ‘Is she like a pillar, a girl, or a firecracker?’ What was that?” Vanga referred to a scene in “Dil” where Aamir Khan’s character almost leads to an attempted rape, but the narrative takes a turn, making the female character realize the mistake, and ultimately, they fall in love.

Expressing his confusion over such criticisms, Vanga emphasized the need to consider the entire context before passing judgment. He questioned the tendency to attack without thoroughly understanding the surroundings of a particular scene.

“Animal,” which starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the previous year. However, the film faced criticism for allegedly promoting misogynistic themes and toxic masculinity. Vanga’s response to Kiran Rao’s comments adds another layer to the ongoing debate around the portrayal of relationships and gender dynamics in Bollywood films.

As discussions unfold, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s stance and the ensuing conversation with Kiran Rao bring attention to the complexities of interpreting cinematic narratives and the ongoing dialogue on gender representation in Indian cinema.
