"Agastya Nanda Opens Up: Unaware for Years About Grandfather Amitabh Bachchan's Fame"

In a candid revelation, Agastya Nanda, the grandson of Bollywood’s iconic figure Amitabh Bachchan, recently shared in an interview that he remained blissfully unaware for years about the unparalleled fame of his “nanu” (grandfather). Agastya, who made his debut last month in Zoya Akhtar’s Netflix India film, The Archies, expressed his realization during a school event in Delhi where his nanu’s popularity became vividly apparent.

In an interview with Film Companion, Agastya shed light on the Bachchan family’s practice of keeping work separate from home, creating a normalcy around his grandfather’s stardom. He recounted the moment of revelation when Amitabh Bachchan visited his school for an annual day celebration.

“The way my family has been, they don’t bring work home. Like my nana never spoke about work at home. So I found it very normal. I thought like okay, he’s a normal granddad, but I only realized when he came to school on annual day that, oh god, he is someone. It was so normal up till then,” shared Agastya in the interview. He further emphasized that the realization of his grandfather’s celebrity status dawned on him when he witnessed the overwhelming reaction of people at the school event.

Reflecting on his initial perception, Agastya admitted, “When he’d show up, everyone would go crazy, and I was like I just don’t get this, why is everyone going crazy. That’s when I realized. And then of course, when I started watching cinema, I was like okay, he’s kind of good at this.”

Last month, after the release of The Archies, Amitabh Bachchan, maintaining his tradition of connecting with fans every Sunday, introduced Agastya to accompany him during his interaction. The megastar shared the moments on his official blog, showcasing photos of himself and Agastya greeting well-wishers outside their Juhu residence, Jalsa.

“The interest is ever more loved than the Capital… And the legacy lives on… Father to son to son to son and then grandson… and the principal ever the reality of the base that built it,” wrote the 81-year-old actor, acknowledging the enduring legacy of the Bachchan family.

Agastya Nanda, the son of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda, marks the third generation of actors in the illustrious Bachchan family, carrying forward the rich tradition of Bollywood excellence.
