Clash of Titans: Ranbir Kapoor's "Animal" Crosses ₹398 Crores Despite Mixed Reactions

Ranbir Kapoor’s latest cinematic outing, “Animal,” continues its roaring rampage at the box office, amassing an impressive ₹37 crores on its ninth day since release across languages in India. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, which clashed with Vicky Kaushal’s “Sam Bahadur” upon its December 1st debut, has now amassed a staggering total of ₹398.53 crores, showcasing remarkable staying power despite a barrage of mixed reviews and critical viewpoints.

The film, touted for its action-packed narrative and star-studded ensemble, has emerged as a commercial powerhouse, raking in significant numbers even amid a competitive landscape. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh praised its unprecedented success, labeling it as the third-highest seven-day total in cinematic history. He hailed its accomplishment as the biggest seven-day total for a non-holiday release and a film that faced a head-to-head clash at the box office.

However, amidst its box office dominance, “Animal” has faced a barrage of criticism from various quarters. NDTV’s film critic, Saibal Chatterjee, accorded the film a mere 1.5 stars, condemning its depiction of “sickeningly violent” father-son dynamics. Chatterjee raised concerns about the glorification of extreme violence in the name of familial protection, overshadowing the commendable performances delivered by Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.

The film’s success at the box office juxtaposed against its critical reception paints a portrait of polarized opinions within the audience spectrum. While some extol the film’s high-octane action sequences and powerhouse performances, others have decried its glorification of violence and unsettling thematic choices.

Despite the divergence in critical viewpoints, “Animal” stands tall as a cinematic force, undeterred by the controversy surrounding its content. Its resilience at the box office hints at its solid grip on audience intrigue, stirring debates about the intersection of commercial success and cinematic artistry.

As “Animal” paves its path through the box office, its endurance in the coming weeks will serve as a testament to its impact, both as a commercial juggernaut and a catalyst for conversations about storytelling boundaries in contemporary cinema.
