Ranveer Singh's Rejection and Shahid Kapoor's Rise: Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Insights on 'Kabir Singh'

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the creative force behind the blockbuster ‘Arjun Reddy’ and its Hindi adaptation ‘Kabir Singh’, recently unveiled intriguing details about the casting process and the journey of bringing the latter to fruition.

In a candid revelation, Vanga disclosed that Ranveer Singh was initially approached for the lead role in ‘Kabir Singh’. However, Singh declined the offer, expressing reservations about the film’s darkness at that particular phase of his career. Subsequently, Shahid Kapoor stepped into the role, marking a significant turning point in the film’s casting trajectory.

Reflecting on this, Vanga shared, “I wanted to do it with [Ranveer Singh]. But finally, he decided he will not do it, because it was too dark for him at that time.” This decision led Vanga to contemplate the project’s viability, eventually turning his focus towards other ventures in Telugu cinema.

Moreover, Vanga shed light on the skepticism surrounding Shahid Kapoor’s casting in ‘Kabir Singh’. He revealed that despite Shahid’s acting prowess, concerns arose due to his box office track record at the time. Vanga mentioned, “Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done ₹100 crore then, his highest was ₹65 crore.”

Despite reservations, Vanga stood by his conviction in Shahid Kapoor’s talent, affirming, “But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor.”

‘Kabir Singh’, akin to its predecessor ‘Arjun Reddy’, garnered massive success at the box office while receiving varied critical feedback. Starring Shahid Kapoor opposite Kiara Advani, the film amassed approximately ₹380 crore globally, validating Vanga’s belief in Kapoor’s portrayal.

Currently, Sandeep Reddy Vanga anticipates the release of his upcoming project, ‘Animal’, featuring a stellar cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. Scheduled for a theatrical release on December 1, ‘Animal’ awaits its moment to captivate audiences with its narrative allure.

As Vanga’s revelations offer insights into the casting dynamics and the intricate journey of ‘Kabir Singh’, anticipation brews for ‘Animal’, promising another compelling narrative from the acclaimed director.
