Rani Mukerji Regrets Missing Out on Aamir Khan's 'Lagaan' Due to Scheduling Conflict

Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, speaking at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, revealed her regret over missing the opportunity to be part of Aamir Khan’s iconic film Lagaan. During an interactive session, Mukerji expressed that she considered herself “unfortunate” for not being able to join the cast of the 2001 blockbuster.

Mukerji recounted how the clash of shooting schedules led to her inability to participate in Lagaan. Aamir Khan, turning producer for the film, had specific shooting requirements, requesting all actors to be available in a particular location for a continuous six-month period. Mukerji had already committed to another project that overlapped with the shooting duration of Lagaan by about 20 days.

“The only film which I could say I was unfortunate that I couldn’t be part of was Lagaan because there was a particular date clash,” shared Mukerji during the event, citing Aamir Khan’s request for a continuous six-month availability of actors.

Despite her desire to collaborate with Khan and her attempts to negotiate with the producers of her prior commitment, Mukerji expressed her disappointment at being unable to join the Lagaan cast. “It was very sad,” she added.

Lagaan, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, garnered immense success, both critically and commercially. Aamir Khan, who produced and starred in the film, led a cast that included Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, and Paul Blackthorne. The movie achieved significant international recognition, marking a milestone in Indian cinema.

Rani Mukerji, known for her versatile performances, embarked on her Bollywood journey with Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat and achieved widespread acclaim with films like Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Her illustrious career spans over two decades, featuring memorable roles in movies like Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Black, Mardaani, and Hichki, among others.

The actress’s latest venture, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, received positive feedback from audiences. While Mukerji hasn’t announced her next project yet, her legacy in Indian cinema continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
