Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 Line-Up Unveiled: From Anurag Kashyap's "Kennedy" to Bradley Cooper's "Maestro"

The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival has raised the curtain on its impressive line-up for the 2023 edition, promising an exhilarating cinematic journey for film enthusiasts. Set to take place from October 27 to November 5, the festival will spotlight an array of compelling films, with a distinct emphasis on South Asian cinema.

Among the headline acts is Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Monster,” Bradley Cooper’s much-anticipated “Maestro,” Anurag Kashyap’s intriguing “Kennedy,” and Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or-winning “Anatomy of a Fall.” This year’s festival promises to be a cinematic extravaganza with over 40 world premieres, 45 Asia premieres, 70 South Asia premieres, and 13 diverse sections.

In addition to the aforementioned films, the festival’s World Cinema line-up boasts an impressive array of titles, including Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days,” Madeleine Gavin’s “Beyond Utopia,” Pedro Costa’s “The Daughters of Fire,” Hong Sang-soo’s “In Our Day,” Pedro Almodóvar’s “Strange Way of Life,” Ken Loach’s “The Old Oak,” Aki Kaurismäki’s “Fallen Leaves,” and Alice Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera.”

Anurag Kashyap’s crime noir “Kennedy” will feature in the Gala Premier South Asia section, alongside “Sharmajee ki Beti” by Tahira Kashyap and “Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa” by Rajat Kapoor.

The South Asia Competition category includes films such as Sumant Bhat’s “Mithya,” Leesa Gazi’s “Barir Naam Shahana” (A House Named Shahana), and Fidel Devkota’s “The Red Suitcase.”

In the Focus South Asia (Non-Competition) segment, audiences can look forward to titles like Varun Grover’s “All India Rank,” Vinod Rawat’s “Pushtaini,” Karan Tejpal’s “Stolen,” and Milin Dhamade’s “Mai.”

The Icons South Asia section showcases Vikramaditya Motwane’s “Indi(r)a’s Emergency,” Anand Patwardhan’s “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” Prasanna Vithanage’s “Paradise,” and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s “Something Like an Autobiography.”

A special section titled “After Dark,” curated by Jongsuk Thomas Nam from the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, will present the restored version of Park Chan-wook’s “Oldboy,” which celebrates its 20th anniversary in November. Additionally, it will feature films like “Late Night with the Devil” by Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes, Kristoffer Borgli’s “Dream Scenario,” and Virat Pal’s “Night of the Bride.”

In the Recap segment, films from 2020 and 2022, including Aparna Sen’s “The Rapist,” Prasun Chatterjee’s “Dostojee,” and Payal Kapadia’s “A Night of Knowing Nothing,” will be screened, offering a glimpse into recent cinematic excellence.
