In a recent revelation, actress Sanya Malhotra, celebrated for her role in the film ‘Jawan,’ shared her astonishment at discovering that her character was loosely inspired by a real-life incident, seemingly drawing parallels to the Gorakhpur Hospital tragedy. Sanya, who portrays the character of Dr. Eeram in this Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, spoke candidly about her experience during an interview with Bollywood Hungama.
When asked about the challenges of portraying a character based on a real person, Sanya admitted that she had no knowledge of this fact until the previous day. Her role has led many to draw associations with Dr. Kafeel Khan, a prominent figure related to the Gorakhpur Hospital incident. Sanya responded, “I got to know about this yesterday. Shooting ke dauran mujhe nahi pata tha (I was not aware of this while shooting).”
Sanya went on to elaborate on her role and working with director Atlee, known for his unique cinematic vision. She described Atlee’s universe as distinct and praised his clear vision for his films. She remarked on the challenging nature of her character, which pushed her beyond her comfort zone. Sanya also highlighted the impact of a particular scene and the seamless blending of real and reel elements in Atlee’s direction.
Regarding the positive response to the film, Sanya expressed her joy at discovering Dr. Kafeel Khan’s tweet after the release. She commended the strong message conveyed through ‘Jawan,’ crediting Atlee’s exceptional direction for its effectiveness.
