Gadar 2 Box Office Collection: Sunny Deol's Film Nears Second Highest Grossing Hindi Film Title

In a remarkable display of box office prowess, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 is poised to claim the title of the “second-highest-grossing Hindi film” in Indian cinema history. The film, which hit theaters on August 11, has been on a blockbuster spree since its release, accumulating an impressive ₹510 crore in earnings.

Gadar 2, a sequel to the 2001 cult classic Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, has been a force to be reckoned with at the domestic box office. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh predicts that it will achieve this milestone imminently, following a spectacular fourth week where it added ₹27.55 crore to its already impressive tally.

The movie now stands shoulder to shoulder with the epic Baahubali 2 (Hindi), holding the promise of overtaking it in terms of box office collections. Taran Adarsh enthusiastically shared his insights, stating, “Gadar 2 inches closer to the next milestone: Baahubali 2 Hindi… Will become the SECOND-HIGHEST grossing Hindi film TODAY [Fri].”

Despite facing competition from Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2 at the box office, Gadar 2 has not only held its ground but has also shattered multiple records in the process. It achieved the remarkable feat of reaching ₹450 crores faster than any other Bollywood film. The movie also claimed the highest second-weekend numbers and registered the highest earnings on Independence Day.

Critically, Gadar 2 opened to mixed reviews, with some critics highlighting its portrayal of the “us-versus-them” narrative across the border. Saibal Chatterjee from NDTV commented, “Gadar 2 loses no opportunity to play up the us-versus-them binary, with the guys across the border generally coming across as fiends without human feelings.” However, the film found a strong fan base among Sunny Deol enthusiasts, those yearning for the classic Bollywood extravagance of yesteryears, and those who endorse the film’s “hate thy neighbor” theme.

In Gadar 2, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprised their iconic roles of Tara and Sakeena, captivating audiences with their on-screen chemistry once again. The sequel also introduced Utkarsh Sharma, the son of director Anil Sharma, in a pivotal role.

As the cash registers continue to ring and the film inches closer to the coveted second-highest-grossing spot in Hindi cinema history, Gadar 2 stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of Bollywood’s iconic franchises and the power of star-driven narratives.
