Anurag Kashyap Hits Back at Critics of Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Anurag Kashyap, the renowned filmmaker, found himself facing criticism after he expressed admiration for Karan Johar’s directorial comeback, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Despite his glowing review of the film, many users took to the comments section of his social media post to express their negative opinions. In response, Kashyap did not shy away from calling them ‘trolls,’ defending his appreciation for the movie.

After Anurag shared his enthusiastic review on social media, one user dismissed the film and its director with negative remarks. Unfazed by the criticism, Kashyap promptly replied, “Proven troll now. Have to remove you.” Another user labeled it as the “worst film of 2023,” prompting Anurag to humorously respond, “The film is about you too,” with a laughing emoji.

Kashyap’s review of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani praised Karan Johar’s work as the “best by far,” commending the filmmaker for not holding back and tackling societal issues with humor and boldness. He particularly lauded the dialogue writing in the mainstream Hindi film, which resonated with authenticity, and praised the outstanding performances of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, as well as the chemistry between the lead actors.

The film’s depiction of an unrequited love story, played by Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, and the matriarchal villainy portrayed by Jaya Bachchan impressed Kashyap. He also expressed delight in the use of old classic songs and humorous references, finding personal joy in the clever incorporation of a popular song.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan, released on Friday and has already garnered substantial attention and box office success, amassing ₹16 crore in just two days.

Anurag Kashyap’s frank and unabashed praise for the film showcases the diversity of opinions and perceptions within the film industry. Despite the criticism faced, he remains firm in his stance, applauding the film’s ability to address societal conditioning and showcase a type of mainstream Hindi cinema he had been longing for.
