Multiple delays, disagreements over contract terms, and Prabhas’ packed schedule contribute to uncertainty around the film’s timeline
Deepika Padukone is reportedly no longer a part of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s much-anticipated film Spirit, starring Prabhas in the lead. According to a report by Filmfare, the actress was dropped due to alleged “unprofessional” behaviour and a disagreement over remuneration terms.
A source close to the production told Bollywood Hungama, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga got the shock of his life when Deepika Padukone refused to shoot for more than six hours a day for Spirit. That’s not all—the actress, through her agency, also demanded an amendment to her contract. Her team insisted that if the shoot exceeded 100 days, she must be paid extra for every additional day, beyond the agreed schedule.”
The film has already encountered several delays. Initially, the shooting was postponed due to Deepika’s pregnancy and expected childbirth. Later, lead actor Prabhas’ injury and his commitment to other high-profile projects, such as Kalki 2898 AD and Salaar, added to the hold-up. These delays have sparked speculation that Spirit may not commence production this year, with some reports suggesting it could be pushed to 2026.
Despite the turmoil, producer Bhushan Kumar recently told the media that the project is expected to go on floors within the next two to three months. The filmmakers, however, are reportedly scouting for a new female lead following Deepika’s exit. No official statement has yet been released by the production team.
After Spirit, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is expected to begin work on Animal Park, the sequel to his 2023 hit Animal, which starred Ranbir Kapoor.
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone continues to have a packed schedule. She is expected to appear in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious period film Love and War, and King, alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
