Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday’s courtroom drama maintains its momentum at the box office, earning ₹42.2 crore in six days.
Kesari Chapter 2, the much-anticipated spiritual sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2019 blockbuster Kesari, continues to draw in audiences across the country. The courtroom drama, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and featuring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles, has raked in ₹42.2 crore at the domestic box office by its sixth day, according to Sacnilk.com.
The film, which opened with ₹7.75 crore on April 18, saw a dip on Wednesday with a collection of ₹3.2 crore—the lowest daily figure so far for the movie. Despite the dip, the film has held steady throughout its first week, supported by largely positive reviews and steady audience turnout. It reported an overall 9.91% Hindi occupancy on its sixth day.
Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, Kesari Chapter 2 takes a historical and emotional route, dramatizing significant events around the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Akshay plays the role of lawyer C Sankaran Nair, who fought a landmark case against the British Empire. Madhavan stars as Neville McKinley, Nair’s formidable opposing counsel, while Ananya Panday plays Dilreet Gill, a young legal associate.
In an interview with ANI, director Karan Singh Tyagi spoke about the inspiration behind the film, revealing that it stemmed from the book Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. “The book uncovered layers of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy rarely discussed. It wasn’t just a massacre, it was a planned political act,” he said. Tyagi, who grew up watching powerful courtroom dramas like Damini, added that those early influences shaped his passion for human stories told on a large canvas.
With a compelling storyline, strong performances, and historical depth, Kesari Chapter 2 continues to resonate with audiences, solidifying its position as one of the more impactful Bollywood dramas of the year.
