‘Shah Rukh Khan Made the Song, He Made the Film’: Abhijeet Bhattacharya Takes Another Salty Dig at the Superstar

Popular playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has once again taken a subtle—yet unmistakably sarcastic—jab at Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. In a new interview with ANI, the veteran singer opened up about their “awkward” relationship, reflecting on their past collaborations and how public perception often sidelines his contribution to hit songs by giving all the credit to Shah Rukh.

Abhijeet, once considered the unofficial voice of Shah Rukh Khan during the 1990s and early 2000s, has lent his vocals to several iconic tracks picturised on the actor, including Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Mein, Wada Raha Sanam, Tauba Tumhare Ye Ishaare, Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai, Baadshah O Baadshah, and Woh Ladki Jo Sab Se. Despite their chart-topping history, their personal rapport appears to have frayed in recent years.

“Everything is Shah Rukh”

Responding to a question about their reportedly strained ties, Abhijeet said with heavy sarcasm, “We’re like twins, I mean, it seems that way with the voice. Now I realize that all these songs aren’t mine. Shah Rukh sang this song, Shah Rukh wrote this song, Shah Rukh composed the music, Shah Rukh made the film, Shah Rukh is the cinematographer. Everything is Shah Rukh. What can I do?”

He added that fans often refer to the songs as Shah Rukh’s, which makes him feel sidelined. “Sab kuch woh hi hai toh bhai main kya karun (If he’s everything, what can I do)?”

On Chalte Chalte and Its Music

Abhijeet also discussed the 2003 film Chalte Chalte, where he sang the memorable track Tauba Tumhare Ye Ishaare. While reflecting on the film’s reception, he remarked, “Chalte Chalte film average hi thi, gaane hit the, sirf gaane hi hit the, par ab kya kar sakte hain (The film was average, only the songs were hits, but what can be done).”

A Storied Career

Despite his current sentiments, Abhijeet’s contribution to Bollywood music remains significant. Known for his distinct voice and versatility, he has sung over a thousand songs in multiple languages and received accolades including Filmfare and Zee Cine Awards.

While his comments hint at a deeper frustration over being overshadowed, they also spark fresh debate about how actors often get credit for songs made popular by singers and music composers.

As of now, Shah Rukh Khan has not responded to Abhijeet’s latest remarks.
