Samay Raina ‘Depressed, Scared’ After India’s Got Latent Controversy, Says Friend Shwetabh Gangwar

YouTuber Shwetabh Gangwar has revealed that comedian Samay Raina is struggling emotionally amid the ongoing India’s Got Latent controversy. In a now-deleted video, Shwetabh described Samay as “broken, depressed, and scared” after multiple FIRs were filed against him and the show’s creators.

Samay Raina’s Emotional State

The controversy erupted after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on India’s Got Latent led to legal trouble. Following this, Samay deleted all episodes of the show and has largely stayed away from social media.

Shwetabh Gangwar, who spoke to Samay over the phone, said the comedian sounded extremely low. “Bhaisahab, toota hua hai vo insaan (He is a broken man). When the controversy first started, I could still see the old Samay, but when I last spoke to him, I saw a broken man… depressed, sad, and scared,” he shared, as per Free Press Journal.

Shwetabh admitted that he felt helpless and emotionally drained, which led him to take a break from social media. He also mentioned that other creators like Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, and Ashish Chanchlani are also facing difficult times due to the controversy.

Samay Raina Addresses the Controversy in Canada

Samay is currently in Canada for live shows and has requested time until March 17 to return to India and record his official statement regarding the case.

A fan named Shubham Dutta, who attended one of Samay’s shows, shared his experience on Facebook. He described Samay as visibly distressed, writing, “For the first time, I saw a 25-year-old guy, weighed down by immense mental pressure, with dark circles under his eyes, a sunken face, and unkempt hair, walk onto the stage in a dust-covered black hoodie. His first words into the mic? ‘Thanks for paying my lawyer’s fees.’”

Despite the stress, Samay tried to joke about the controversy, saying, “Iss show pe bahut mauka ayega, jahan aapko lag sakta hai ki main bahut funny kuch bol sakta hoon, par tab BeerBiceps ko yaad kar lena bhai” (There will be many moments in this show where you might think I could say something really funny, but in those moments, just remember BeerBiceps, brother).

Supreme Court Criticizes Samay Raina’s Remarks

On March 2, the Supreme Court addressed the India’s Got Latent controversy during a hearing related to Ranveer Allahbadia. While allowing him to resume podcasting under certain conditions, the court also took note of Samay Raina’s comments made during his Canada show.

Without directly naming him, Justice Kant criticized “one of these youngsters” for speaking about the case abroad. He remarked, “These youngsters are being overly smart. They think we are probably an outdated generation. One of them has gone to Canada and spoken there. They don’t know the jurisdiction this Court enjoys and what can be done. We don’t want to take action because they are young; we understand,” as reported by Live Law.

With legal trouble mounting and public scrutiny intensifying, Samay Raina appears to be struggling under immense pressure. His return to India and the legal proceedings ahead will determine the next chapter in this controversy.
