Telugu film Laila, starring Vishwak Sen in a dual role, hit theatres on Valentine’s Day 2025 but failed to impress audiences. While Chhaava and Captain America: Brave New World garnered mixed to positive reactions, Laila received overwhelmingly negative reviews. Disappointed viewers flooded X (formerly Twitter) with harsh criticism, calling the film a “low-grade disaster.”
Brutal Audience Reactions
Social media users were unforgiving in their assessment of Laila, branding it a complete failure. One user sarcastically addressed the controversy surrounding the film’s boycott, writing, “Don’t believe any hatred reviews targeting #Laila movie. #LailaMovie is a disaster on script itself. From beginning to end, it’s unbearable torture.“
Another user posted a thumbs-down and vomit emoji alongside the film’s title card, commenting, “The Worst… Seriously, what a scrap.“
A particularly scathing review labeled Laila as “Low-Grade Atrocious Film,” accusing the makers of relying on “body shaming and double-meaning jokes” instead of quality storytelling. Another viewer compared the film unfavorably to Bhojpuri cinema, tweeting, “Bhojpuri films have a better message than this!“
About Laila
Directed by Ram Narayan, Laila is an action comedy featuring Vishwak Sen in a dual role—one as an aspiring model named Sonu and the other as the titular femme fatale, Laila. The film also stars Akanksha Sharma, Vennela Kishore, Babloo Prithiveeraj, and Abhimanyu Singh.
Despite the initial buzz, the film’s weak script, crass humor, and lackluster execution have left audiences disappointed.
Boycott Controversy Didn’t Matter, Say Viewers
Before its release, Laila was embroiled in controversy due to comments made by actor Prudhvi Raj during a pre-release event on February 9. His remarks, which carried political undertones and referenced the recent Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, sparked outrage among supporters of the YSR Congress Party. The backlash led to the hashtag #BoycottLaila trending on Twitter.
Even though Prudhvi Raj later issued an apology, the controversy lingered. However, as some viewers pointed out, “The protesters needn’t have bothered,” implying that the film’s poor quality would have led to its downfall regardless of the boycott calls.
