Ajith Kumar's 'Vidaamuyarchi' Sees Monday Drop, Earns ₹65 Crore in Five Days

Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan’s latest action thriller Vidaamuyarchi has seen a significant drop in collections on Monday after a strong opening weekend. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the film, which hit theatres on Thursday, has earned ₹65 crore net in India over its first five days, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.

Box Office Performance

Vidaamuyarchi opened with an impressive ₹26 crore on Thursday but witnessed a decline over the weekend with ₹10 crore on Friday, ₹13 crore on Saturday, and ₹12 crore on Sunday. However, the film’s collections saw a sharp fall on Monday, earning just ₹3 crore. The Tamil film had an overall occupancy rate of 17.11% on February 10, 2025.

The worldwide collection for Vidaamuyarchi stood at ₹92 crore by Day 3. Although updated global figures are yet to be released, production house Lyca Productions recently revealed that the film has earned $800,000 at the North American box office.

About Vidaamuyarchi

The film follows Ajith Kumar’s character on a dangerous mission to rescue his wife after she is abducted by a criminal group in Azerbaijan. Inspired by the 1997 Hollywood thriller Breakdown, the movie was initially set for a Pongal release but faced delays before finally premiering. Filming began in 2023 and concluded in 2024, after which Ajith Kumar briefly shifted focus to his passion for racing.

Audience and Critical Reception

Vidaamuyarchi has received a mixed response from both critics and audiences. While some appreciate its gripping storyline and Ajith’s intense performance, others feel the film lacks the commercial elements typically associated with his star power.

Film analysts suggest that the coming days will be crucial in determining the movie’s long-term box office run. Despite the Monday dip, trade experts remain optimistic about its overall performance.

Ajith Kumar’s Film Legacy

Ajith Kumar, one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, has over 60 films to his credit, including iconic hits like Aasai, Kadhal Kottai, Citizen, Villain, Varalaru, and Billa. Vidaamuyarchi marks another ambitious project in his career, featuring a star-studded cast including Trisha, Arjun Sarja, and Regina Cassandra.
