Aamir Khan Opens Up About His "Extremist" Habits, Reflects on Past Struggles with Alcohol

Aamir Khan, known for his discipline and perfectionism when it comes to his films, has candidly discussed the contradictions between his work and personal life in a recent conversation with veteran actor Nana Patekar.

While Aamir is widely recognized for his punctuality and commitment on set, he admitted to not always exhibiting the same level of discipline in his personal life. During the chat, Aamir revealed that he has struggled with extremism in his personal habits, calling himself “indisciplined” outside of his professional life.

“I am always on time. So, I am not indisciplined when it comes to my films, but in my life, I am,” Aamir shared. He further explained that his tendency to go to extremes led him to develop some unhealthy habits, particularly around drinking. Reflecting on his past, Aamir admitted, “Now I have quit drinking, but at one point, I used to drink. And when I used to drink, I would drink all night. I could not stop.”

Aamir described his extreme nature, explaining, “The problem is that I am an extremist man, so I continue to do what I am already doing. It’s not a good thing and I realize that. I also know that I am doing the wrong thing, but I can’t stop myself.”

Though he has since quit drinking, Aamir revealed that he still indulges in smoking a pipe. Despite these admissions, Aamir emphasized that when it comes to his professional life, he is “sharply disciplined” and does not face the same issues of indiscipline that he does in his personal life.

On his future plans, Aamir revealed that he plans to work on fewer films going forward, saying, “I have thought that I will do one film a year now because otherwise I do one film in three years.” He is currently working on Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel to his 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which will star Darsheel Safary and Genelia Deshmukh in key roles.

The conversation with Nana Patekar not only revealed Aamir’s struggles with discipline but also offered insight into his process as a person and an actor, highlighting the complex relationship between his personal and professional worlds.
