Shah Rukh Khan Reflects on His Journey, Outsider Status, and Voicing Mufasa in The Lion King

Actor Shah Rukh Khan recently shared poignant insights about his life and career, calling himself a “semi-orphan” and an “outsider” in the Hindi film industry. In a video shared by Walt Disney Studios India on Instagram, the Bollywood icon also opened up about his experience voicing Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King.

On Being a ‘Semi-Orphan’

Shah Rukh spoke candidly about losing his parents early in life. “Technically speaking, anyone who doesn’t have parents is an orphan. I did lose my parents nearly in youth, so I’m a semi-orphan,” the actor explained, reflecting on his personal struggles and how they shaped his journey.

On His Outsider Status in Bollywood

The self-made superstar described his initial struggles in the film industry, emphasizing his status as an outsider. “No family of mine has been in the business of filmmaking. I came from Delhi to Mumbai, so main outsider bhi hoon (I’m an outsider as well),” Shah Rukh said. Despite these challenges, he added with characteristic humility, “It’s the story of the King. So, yeah, I’m a king.”

Connecting with Mufasa

Shah Rukh shared his emotional connection to Mufasa, the character he voices in the Hindi version of The Lion King. “It’s a very interesting story about sacrifice, friendship, and loyalty. There were lots of emotions while I was dubbing the film. I thought, ‘What a nice person, what a great character. Kitna accha human being sher hai (what a nice human being lion),’” he said.

Shah Rukh’s son, Aryan Khan, voices Simba in the Hindi version, while his youngest son, AbRam Khan, lends his voice to young Mufasa. Other prominent voice actors include Sanjay Mishra as Pumbaa, Shreyas Talpade as Timon, and Meiyang Chang as Taka.

Mufasa’s Legacy

Earlier, Shah Rukh had shared his deep resonance with Mufasa’s character in a statement by Disney. “Mufasa has an incredible legacy and stands as the ultimate king of the jungle, imparting his wisdom to his son, Simba. I deeply relate to him as a father and also resonate with Mufasa’s journey in the film,” he said.

About The Lion King

Mufasa: The Lion King is set to release on December 20 in English, Hindi, and Tamil. The film’s themes of sacrifice, love, and leadership are brought to life with an ensemble of talented voice actors, making it a must-watch for fans of the beloved franchise.

Shah Rukh Khan’s reflections on his life and role as Mufasa add a layer of emotional depth to the anticipation surrounding the film, offering audiences a glimpse of the personal connections that make the story even more compelling.
