In an exciting development for Telugu cinema fans, superstar Mahesh Babu has been roped in to voice the iconic character of Mufasa in the Telugu version of Disney’s highly anticipated film, Mufasa: The Lion King. Following the legacy of Shah Rukh Khan, who lends his voice to Mufasa in the Hindi version, Mahesh Babu expressed his enthusiasm for the role and the opportunity to be part of a Disney classic.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King is set to release in India on December 20 and will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The film promises to blend live-action filmmaking techniques with photorealistic computer-generated imagery, offering a fresh yet familiar experience to audiences.
Mahesh Babu shared his excitement in a statement: “I have always admired Disney’s blockbuster legacy of entertainment and timeless storytelling; the character of Mufasa appeals to me not only as a loving father guiding his son but as the supreme king of the jungle taking care of his clan. My family means everything to me, and this collaboration with Disney is personally very special as it is an experience I will cherish with my children! I am looking forward to when my family as well as my fans will be watching Mufasa: The Lion King in Telugu on the big screen on 20th December.”
Joining Mahesh Babu in the Telugu version are renowned comedians Brahmanandam and Ali, who will voice the beloved characters of Pumbaa and Timon, respectively. The Telugu trailer is set to launch on August 26 at 11:07 AM, building anticipation for the film’s release.
On the Hindi front, Shah Rukh Khan continues his association with the Lion King franchise, voicing Mufasa, with his sons Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan also lending their voices to the characters of Simba and young Mufasa, respectively. This marks AbRam’s voice debut, while Aryan Khan had previously voiced Simba in the 2019 Hindi version of The Lion King alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Mufasa.
Mahesh Babu was last seen in the commercial hit Guntur Kaaram, directed by Trivikram Srinivas, where he starred alongside Sree Leela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishnan, Jagapathi Babu, and others. He is currently gearing up for his role in SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited project, tentatively titled SSMB29.
As excitement builds for the release of Mufasa: The Lion King, Mahesh Babu’s fans eagerly await the Telugu adaptation, which promises to bring the magic of Disney’s storytelling to life with a local flavor.
