Thangalaan Trailer: Vikram Shines as a Fierce Tribal Leader, Malavika Mohanan as a Sorceress

The highly anticipated trailer for Pa Ranjith’s upcoming film, Thangalaan, featuring the versatile actor Vikram, was released on Wednesday. The film, set during the British Raj, showcases Vikram in the powerful role of a tribal leader, with Malavika Mohanan playing a captivating sorceress.

The 2-minute-9-second trailer offers a glimpse into the intense and gripping narrative of Thangalaan. Vikram shared the trailer on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Witness the Son of Gold, mine through history with sacrifice, sweat and bloodshed.” The trailer begins with Parvathy Thiruvothu’s character probing into Vikram’s troubled mind, hinting at his mental struggles. The plot thickens as a British officer, Lord Clement, arrives in their village in search of gold, enlisting the help of the villagers.

The tension escalates when a local predicts that the quest for gold will lead to death. Malavika Mohanan’s character, Aarathi, a sorceress, emerges as a protector of the land, resisting exploitation. The trailer concludes with a striking image of Vikram covered in gold dust, standing with his people, ready for battle.

Thangalaan delves into the historical and lesser-known story of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka. According to the filmmakers, the movie will uncover the ‘real story’ behind the gold mines that led to India being referred to as ‘sone ki chidiya’ (golden bird). During the British Raj, the British exploited the KGF mines, extracting over 900 tonnes of gold and shipping it to England. The film aims to shed light on the untold struggles and resilience of the KGF residents who fought against colonial exploitation.

Thangalaan, initially slated for release in January and later April, will now hit theaters on August 15. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathi, Muthukumar, Hari Krishnan, Preethi, Arjun Prabhakaran, and Hollywood actor Daniel Goldragon. GV Prakash has composed the music for this Studio Green production.

The film will be released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. The gory and intense teaser, released in November last year, has already generated significant buzz and positive responses from the audience.
